Nuke's Bezier tool
Hey everyone,
Great idea for this network by the way, I will be sure to inform the other Nuke enthusiasts about it. Anyways, I have been having a bit of trouble with the ins and outs of the Bezier tool for roto in Nuke. My main software has been Shake and I am slowly teaching myself Nuke and breaking away from Shake. I have done the pdf tutorials on The Foundry's site mostly the keying with IBK and adding separate keys together. When I did the IBK tutorial the masks were given to me to use as holdouts and garbage, the way they were setup in the tree were a lot different than what I am used to. Is there any tutorial or even a brief explanation of the actual tool and its settings? One main issue I keep having is resizing the shape to 1920X1080, I have to use reformat each time and I cant find any place to input an actual change in size. Also, I am not sure if the (in frame and out frame) are available in nuke. (for timing- allows the user to tell the shape when it is visible and when it is not).
Thanks guys

yep...
I not sure I understand what you mean....The main goal of a bezier tool is to build the matte , as you know the easiest way to make use of it is to use the besier together with the merge nod ( this one turn it on mask) so -
just link the A of the bezier to the merge nod and insert this one into your comp - here you have the mask
You don't have to link the other entrance of the bezier ....just live it as it is - unlinked
The reformat is great - but as I am always saying - don't use the proxy mode - unless you are very forced to do it....
I am using the reformat mainly to keep a consistency between all the plates I am using
And there is something you should be aware - Some nodes have ROI inside them - so please open them right after the node you need...
Please send em the script or a picture of it....
Cheers

Re: Nuke's Bezier tool
One way to turn nodes on and off is to add an expression to the disable knob in the desired node's properties.
=frame<10||frame>20 for instance will turn the node off if the frame is smaller then 10 and bigger then 20
=frame>10 will turn the node off if the frame is bigger then 10
And you can use the same principle in a Switch node to deactivate entire branches of your tree or what a nots.
Also you can animate the disable and mix knobs as you please.
Hope it helps.

Re: Nuke's Bezier tool
thanks that helps a lot, expressions are what I need to touch up on more. I believe the newest fxphd nuke course has two classes on advanced and intermediate expressions and tool building which I cant wait for. If I learn anything of interest I will be sure to post it.
Thanks again

I started making tutorials now on basic nuke workings and since I was a bit confused at first on roto I figured I would make a visual roto tutorial for anyone who might need it. http://www.jasonheinze.com/Tutorials.htm Once things calm down a bit at work I will try and make more.
